Chris has maintained an active private studio for many years. Students come from many walks of life and with different goals in mind.
Whatever the case, developing a love of the flute and its music is paramount to success. Students often find that the challenge of
perfecting the craft excites them and "practising" is no longer the mundane and daily chore so often thought of, but a private time that they look forward to.
A flute lesson is not only about learning the techniques of playing the flute and of music, but also a time to develop one's creative self and to let it flourish. Enjoying the benefits of same makes for a very personal freedom!
Participation in examinations, concerts and auditions are highly suggested though not required. A student's progress depends on several factors: time spent practising, patience, passion, attendance at concerts, listening to recordings and so on.
Serious students are expected to have a natural curiosity and love of the instrument and of music.
Chris is available to lead traditional format masterclasses and also presents workshops on several topics such as:
"Freeing the creative spirit" - a masterclass format in which performers are helped to find their own interpretive voice so that their playing speaks to themselves first.
"Life as a freelance player" - a lecture/demo presenting information every new freelance classical flute player should know. Includes hands on advice on what you should be ready to play at a moment's notice, how to prepare and how to make sure you get asked back! Performers are also used in this workshop.
